Simple spring home updates

Apologies for the lack of blog content recently – I’m working on a big and very exciting project that’s taking up most of my time. I hope to be able to share more details with you soon, but in the meantime I wanted to put together a quick post rounding up some simple spring updates that I’ve made around the home now the weather is getting warmer, the evenings are lighter and nature is blooming.

The biggest change is in our living room, where I’ve swapped our fluffy long-pile rug for a flat-weave design – this one, from La Redoute [AD – affiliate link], which comes in various sizes. The old rug was getting very stained, and I felt like the room as a whole needed a bit of a refresh for the new season. This one makes the space feel much bigger and brighter, but it’s still cosy and tactile. I love the subtle 3D pattern, which reminds me of ripples in the sand at the beach, and it looks wonderful with a couple of big vases of spring greenery. The old rug won’t go to waste, as I’m going to get it dry-cleaned and then either reuse it somewhere else around the house or keep it to swap back into the living room when it gets cold again next winter.

Upstairs in the main bedroom, our heavy double-cotton bedspread has been swapped for a lightweight linen design. I always sleep with a thin low-tog duvet topped by another layer, as it means I can make the bed warmer or cooler as I want – especially useful in transitional seasons like this, when it can be balmy one night and frosty the next. I love the soft clay-pink hue of this one, and it adds a touch of spring colour without overwhelming the neutral beige and white decor of the room. It’s actually not officially a bedspread at all, but a flat sheet [AD – affiliate link] in a size up from the bed (so kingsize for our standard double). Flat sheets are generally much cheaper than bedspreads, but the dimensions are similar and you can use them in the same way. I like a draped look, with the linen gently pooling on the floor, and I often put two together for a layered effect.
